Dry Rations Project

Sri Lanka is undergoing one of her worst economic crisis in her 74 years of post-independence and for the first time in our history we have recently opted for a default of all international debt obligations. In this scenario our citizens are undergoing immense hardship, with shortages and rising costs of essential goods which includes food, medicine and fuel, which situation may remain for some time.

This has led to us Rotarians requesting support from donors in the form of financial & commodity assistance; to be able to assist those in need .  Rotary Club of Colombo West has been donating “food dry rations packages” within the Colombo District with funding already available. We have now drawn an action plan to enlarge the scope of this project; to procure the  needed items and have it packed and distributed to the more poverty stricken areas in the country. The logistics of managing the distribution for this project will be handled  by Rotary Clubs of such identified localities.

We would have been pleased to receive donations from overseas in kind; but given the requirement for import permits and approvals required, also  taking into consideration the urgency of the requirement,  we are compelled  to request the assistance in the form of funds. Thereby we will locally source food items  directly from the importer / distributor have it packed and distributed to the relevant locations.

Given below is the current status of the project where funds are bring donated by interested parties including Rotarians and  Rotary Clubs.
