Ongoing project under RI Global Grant (GG 1984343) with Rotary Club of Bathavon, UK (RI District 1200) as the lead club and Rotary clubs in Germany (RI District 1860) and France (RI District 1720).

To address the dire need for higher quality English teaching in the tea estate areas of Sri Lanka, where many English teachers are not able to speak English themselves. This leads to over 80% of students not achieving the basic English qualification necessary to gain employment. Through teaching government school English teachers to speak and write English, how to teach English effectively and how to plan interactive and effective lesson plans, this project will vastly increase the number of children benefitting from good quality basic English education. 20 government primary and 40 government secondary English teachers will be trained, leading to 27,000 children gaining better quality English and improved ‘O’ level results through improved teaching each year.
